The Interview. (by @blucke)

@streetphoto_bw: The very first thing that captured my attention(and I think the every viewer that comes to your IG) is the tone of sepia you keep constantly and that will be my question number one: why sepia? It must be some of your personal taste of course but tell us why.
@radiotom: Why sepia? First of it’s not just sepia tone staining, because the white is most of the time still white. The black still black. Just the grey tones are brown. Maybe it looks dirtier. And I like it when it’s not so clean. For example, I like dirty cars more than clean polished cars (but they shouldn’t stink too much). I feel just more comfortable. And the other reason which developed in time that it is my personal style. And now it is hard to escape from this. That is why I created a second identity called airtom. On this account I can do whatever I want, what means colorful images and whatever comes into my mind. I wanted to call it freetom but this was already occupied so I have called it airtom.

@streetphoto_bw: The series you did at the museum.. White and clean background.. One or two people standing there, how did this idea came up to you? It’s very interesting the way they seem to be lost in thoughts, others appreciating time going by looking at the pieces exposed.
@radiotom: To be honest I never have ideas. I go to a place. In this case because I really like this museum in Vienna(MUMOK). I never go somewhere to shoot, I always shoot where I go. Especially this place is perfect to take pics though. The light is always perfect, there is so much space, and the surrounding is clear and simple. The people are still, standing and relaxed and photoshooting is allowed and everybody thinks that I shoot the artpieces. Especially in “the statue and the guard” series. I really enjoyed to shoot both, the guard and the statue. They spent the whole day together and I am sure the whole day the people take pictures of both. And that the people get lost in thoughts is the intention of a museum.

@streetphoto_bw: Tell us about your creative process, your photos are so delicated! With a particular kind of focus..
@radiotom: First shortly to my creative process: some of my thinking. Draw the attention to the important with light, focus, sharpness… Leave out the non important with blur, shadow or better cropping.

@streetphoto_bw: How did you start photography?
@radiotom: Actually I started when I got my kids 10 years ago(twins): my daughter Emma and my son Linus are the coolest kids in town, objectively(maybe I dont have an objective point of view, haha) the classic lovely kids photos are also alright but I also always liked the the cool photos which show some more feelings than the happy-child-feeling because they are more than that.

@streetphoto_bw: What do you think about Street Photography?
@radiotom: Instagram showed me that I am attracted to this kind of pics. I always liked to watch people. And I never had the idea to shoot strange people but when I started once I couldn’t stop again. And it is essential to treat the people with respect. Very important.

@streetphoto_bw: What kind of impression do you want to give to your followers or anyone who visit your feed?
@radiotom: That is very difficult to answer. I am happy when somebody likes what I do, but to be honest I like it more when I like what I do and when the picture touches me emotionally (very selfish I suppose! ) And to emphasize this emotion in a pic is what I try to do.

@streetphoto_bw: Now, about your winner photo. How did you shoot your winner photo, iPhone or DSLR? If iPhone, which apps did you use?
@radiotom: I shot about 50 pics on a bridge while I was waiting for the underground. I picked that pic because of the cars, pedestrians and bikes there were all busy. I used photo Fx app to crop it, then black and white filter, 30% Hicon copper, then enhancing twice. Camera plus app for clarity filter. Back to Photo Fx: depth of field (value 15), erased the blurness of the signs the first car in the back and the traffic light in the front. At the end bleach bypass filter 50% with full saturation. Framing with Pic frame app.

@streetphoto_bw: What do you think about our group? Do you have any suggestions?
@radiotom: I really like these challenges because I really like to win. I have tried it several times. I always want to win everything, because of the fun of it. But I am also a good looser. A book of all your pics would be great or an exibhition…

@streetphoto_bw: Finally could you name us some of your favourite street photographers?
@radiotom: Henricartierbresson, Vivianmaier (not really instagramers), Kopete, Sionfullana, Takinyerphoto, Nathparis, Fashion, Danielji, Uwa2000…

@streetphoto_bw: Thanks for your time!
@radiotom: Best wishes and thank you again.
